Economist Amartya Sen today said the performance of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) has not been equal throughout the country.
"The scheme to develop the state of the country's children is not being run equally in all the states. Some states performed well but a number of states lag behind in the performance of ICDS," Sen said while addressing a programme here.
The Nobel laureate said ICDS plays a significant role in providing children with nutrition and pre-school services.
"Nutrition and growth of mind are related things. Malnourishment affects the ability of thinking," he said. Sen stressed on increasing the rate of immunisation of children in India.
"In India, hardly 66 per cent children are immunised but in neighbouring Bangladesh it stands at 95 per cent," he said.
