XIMB celebrated the 63rd Republic Day of India with a difference. About 80 differently-abled students from various schools participated in Para Athlos, a sports event organised by Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) in association with Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar, on the campus grounds on January 26.
Both senior and junior age groups from various schools in and around Bhubaneswar such as Shri Harsha Memorial School for the Deaf and School for Deaf and Dumb, Palaspalli, participated in the event.
This event succeeded in bringing out the innate talents of the differently-abled, as they participated in activities such as the hundred metre and fifty metre relay races, sack race, toffee race, balloon race, throwball and volleyball with enthusiasm and commendable teamwork, even as the audience passionately cheered and motivated them.
“Para Athlos is an embodiment of the spirit of participation in its truest meaning. For it is here, that differently-abled children find the opportunity to prove their mettle in sports such as volleyball, sack race, obstacle race while having fun at the same time. We have started this event in 2011, and plan to carry it as our flagship event,” said Mayank Kejriwal, coordinator, Social Responsibility Cell, XIMB Bhubaneswar.
Captain S S Mohanty, president, Rotary Club, Rotarian Gopinath Sarangi and IPP professor Gopal Krishna Nayak gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners.
“We started this event last year and there has been good response, with three schools participating this year. Through this event we want the differently-abled to know that they are not neglected,” said Mohanty, and added, “Events like these bring out the hidden qualities in these special children”.
