Kolkata: Madhyamik will be held on a bifurcated syllabus from 2012. This was decided by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education at a special meeting on Wednesday.
So, students, promoted to class IX in 2010, will be the first to take the Madhyamik in 2012 on the bifurcated syllabus. The reasons are many, including reducing pressure and making it more student friendly as suggested by the National Curriculum Framework in 2005.
“The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education had already introduced the change in 2005. We were pending with the decision that was finally taken at Wednesday’s meeting,” said a senior board official. This will bring the West Bengal Board For Secondary Education at par with other national boards
