Jamia Millia Islamia is going to come up with hostel facilities for 400 students of postgraduate, graduate and school level students (separate for boys and girls) from Jammu and Kashmir.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 16.22 crores and the project is expected to be completed within 24 months from the date of construction. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between the central university, the Ministry of Home Affairs and J&K Government for the construction of hostels on Thursday.
The registrar of Jamia, professor S M Sajid signed the MoU on behalf of Jamia in the presence of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah, and vice chancellor of Jamia, Najeeb Jung.
The proposed hostel facility will be for 400 students of postgraduate, graduate and schools level students (separate for boys and girls) from J&K.
Jung, on the occasion, reiterated his commitment to the underprivileged sections of society and to those who come from disturbed areas like the North East and Kashmir. He mentioned that Jamia had recently admitted Kashmiri students in the Jamia schools, even though it was mid session.
