Rendering the graduation speech at the CMS College of Science and Commerce, he said converting the basic mathematical ability, proficiency in English, competence in Information Technology sector is the utmost developmental challenges we have before us today.
The most important prerequisite to overcome this challenge is to give more emphasis to quality education. Higher education can alone equip every individual with the mindset and the attitude to see humanity in broader perspective, the Vice-Chancellor said.
Mr. Thiruvasagam reiterated, only with a good education set up, a robust and progressive nation was possible
Nations across the world were becoming more and more competitive and dependent on the knowledge, skills and resourcefulness of its people, creating new opportunities and challenges for education, training and capacity building.
He urged education institutions to change from being centres of acquisition of knowledge to those of social readiness to serve humanity.
He condemned the adverse trend of declining interest in humanities, social sciences and languages.
Restructuring the curriculum and implementation of new, modern methods for imparting and receiving knowledge in these subjects will greatly enhance the relevance of the courses, Mr. Thiruvasagam said.
