Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras is organizing a one-day workshop titled “Onshore Petroleum Spills Case studies in India and the Way Forward” on the 7th of Feb, 2012.
Conducted as a part of the collaborative research project on Fate of petroleum hydrocarbons along with Land and Water Group of CSIRO Australia, experts, researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders from petroleum industry will deliberate on the various issues pertaining to the environmental issues associated with petroleum product spills in refineries, drilling sites, storage sites and retail outlets.
Apart from that, experts from CSIRO Australia and Auburn University U.S.A will also share their experiences in their respective countries.
Minister of Environment, B.V Ramana will inaugurate the one-day workshop. Other dignitaries to be present at the workshop are C.V.Shankar, Principal secretary Environment, Govt of Tamil Nadu and T. Srinavasamurthy, Director of Environment, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
