JAWS software for blind at Loyola lab

Chennai: For the benefit of visually impaired students 30 computers to be installed in the language lab with JAWS software at Loyola College's Resource Centre for the Differently-Abled (RCDA)
College principal A Albert Muthumalai said the lab would be useful for all students. State Commisioner for the Disabled Meenakshi Rajagopal, who was the chief guest, said the state has been a pioneer on many fronts when it came to providing schemes for the disabled. 'The government has been providing motorised wheelchairs and other aids for the differently-abled on a regular basis. Those who are eligible but have not received these can contact us at any time,' she said.

The workshop introduced about 50 disabled students to the nuances of using the software and facilities in the lab. 'It was a useful workshop and will give differently-abled students a chance to compete with the best in the class,' said Sivaramakrishnan, a visually impaired student.
