Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development

Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, fully funded by the Government of India.

The Institute is located at Sriperumbudur, nearly 40 kilometers south of Chennai city, the commercial and cultural capital and a buoyant metropolis of Tamilnadu ,the third most industrialized States in India.

The RGNIYD campus spans 42 acres of lush greenery, which encompass air-conditioned classrooms, conference Halls, seminar halls and a 500-member capacity auditorium with the latest audio-visual technology. Student hostels and staff residential quarters are provided on campus.

This provides the opportunity of student-faculty interaction beyond the classroom.

The campus also contains facilities for yoga and indoor and outdoor sports. One of the landmarkfeatures of the campus grounds is its beautiful garden that has a wide variety of rare plants. The student experience at RGNIYD involves much more than academic scholarship: it is a complete way of life.

Library

The RGNIYD library is state-of-the-art and contains an extensive collection of subject specific books, journals and CD ROMs. The entire title contents of the library have been digitalized and made available at a glance in a database, with simple, user friendly search and retrieval methods. The computer lab is equipped with the latest hardware, software, LAN, Internet, Wi-Fi and other IT-related facilities.

Video Conferencing

RGNIYD at Sriperumbudur functions as the hub with a fixed VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal used for satellite communication). Utilising NICs high-speed satellite network NICNET, RGNIYD communicates to 127 cities at 206 locations, including all North-Eastern state capitals.

Simultaneous Interpretation System (SIS)

The Institutes Seminar Hall has the facility for simultaneous interpretation from one language to another, so that the participants can exchange their views and experiences without having to worry about loss of content or misrepresentation in translation.

Community Radio Station (CRS)

RGNIYD established its Community Radio Station (CRS) at its campus as a part of its AHD Project with a frequency of 107.20 MHz. The station— named Ilanthalir, meaning ‘tender leaf—carries out programmes on career guidance, health, life skills, environmental concerns, social issues, tourism, the Indian Constitution, and secularism.

RGNIYD endeavors to facilitate our nations youth with a conducive environment and tools that will enable them to make the most of their natural potential to realize their aspirations. RGNIYD functions as vital resource center coordinating training, orientation, research, extension and outreach initiatives for State, Central Governments and National Level youth organizations.

To pursue studies here, its necessary to have completed a basic UG degree with minimum of 40% marks in the studies.
