The Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned over Rs 300 crore for upgrading 279 middle schools in the state this year.
It was informed in a Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, officials said.
Rs 300.80 crore have been approved for upgrading 279 middle schools this year, they said.
Omar said RMSA must ensure swift transfer of annual grants to school management committees without creating channels.
"Ensure that the benefits of the scheme substantially contribute to the growth and development of education in the state particularly at secondary level for which RMSA initiative has been introduced with the assistance of Union Government," he said.
Pointing out that education has been one of the major concerns of the state government, he said the sector's comprehensive development is important to nurture future talent.
"Education holds key to the socio-economic development. We have focused on the development of education at all primary, secondary and higher levels," he said.
In the meeting matters, relating to model school scheme, national means-cum-merit scholarship, inclusive education for disabled at secondary stage and other issues pertaining to the RMSA were discussed, officials said
