Language and terminology in the legal profession was degrading and the law education institutes must train their students well since the proceedings are recorded in the courts' records and remain the same for several decades, Judge of Supreme Court J. Chalameswar said here on Saturday.
He made this observation while speaking at a reunion meeting of the 1973-76 batch B.L. students organised in the Andhra University Dr. Ambedkar College of Law, of which he was member.
Earlier Mr. Justice Chalameswar inaugurated the conference hall of the college, named Hall 19 (1)(a) Facilitating Free Expression. The hall is on the first floor of the Mute Court building of the decades-old Law College building.
He told the law students that ethical behaviour was more important for the law profession and urged every law student to work hard to strengthen the profession.
The Supreme Court Judge felt that the recent happenings in the Supreme Court Bar Association should not have happened.
Mr. Justice Chalameswar went down memory lane and recollected some incidents during his study here and remembered the great teachers who taught the class. Judge of AP High Court B. Seshasayana Reddy and Member of State Human Rights Commission K. Pedaperi Reddy, who were also students of the 1973-76 batch also participated. Mr. Justice Seshasayana Reddy said teacher was like the root of a plant and responsible for the behaviour and personality development of his or her students.
The old students felicitated their former teacher Prof. R. Jaganmohana Rao, who later retired as principal of the college.
Principal Secretary (higher education) and Vice-Chancellor in-charge of AU M.G. Gopal felt that old students should be made members of a university's Executive Council. He wanted the gathering of old students to help the university.
Former Chairman of Bar Council of India D.V. Subba Rao, District Judge Ch. Manavendranath Roy and other judicial officers, former VC of AU K. Ramakrishna Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of AP University of Law Y. Satyanarayana, present VC Bhagavath Kumar, Rector of AU P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy, Principal in-charge of Law College V. Kesava Rao, Registrar in-charge K. Samrajyalakshmi, former MLA K. Haribabu, Chairman of AP Hindi Academy Y.L. Prasad, former Advocate General D.V. Sitarama Murthy, former presidents of Visakhapatnam Bar Association D.V. Dakshina Murthy and P.V. Narayana Rao, who belonged to the 1974-76 batch, former Principals A. Rajendra Prasad and D.S.N. Somayajulu, Vice-Principal Y. Satyanarayana, faculty and students of the AU Law College, several advocates participated.
