Amid reports that Madhya Pradesh government is not inclined to set up an extension centre of the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) here, its old boys association today held an emergency meeting and decided to raise the issue with the state government.
The meeting of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) has decided to meet Governor Ram Naresh Yadav and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to raise the issue of allotment of land for setting up an extension centre of the Central University, the association said.
Addressing the meeting, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the IGNOU, Professor Baseer Ahmed, said that it is a matter of pride for any state to get the centre of AMU as the university is not just confined to one particular community, but caters to all sections of the society.
He said that the Union Government had sanctioned setting up of five AMU extension centres in different states including Madhya Pradesh. The other states like Kerala, West Bengal, Bihar and Maharashtra have already agreed to provide land for the proposed extension centre.
AMU is not just a prestigious university, but is also known the world over for providing quality and affordable education to all sections of the society.
Besides Ahmad, NRI Professor Ahmad Ayoob, Professor Mateen Siddiqui, AMUOBA president Iqbal Qazi, Seraj Khan and Dr Habeeb Tasneem addressed the gathering and expressed hope that the state would soon allot suitable land to the AMU for
the purpose.
