ICRISAT has teamed up with Vienna-based International Association for Cereal Science & Technology(ICC) to host first ever International grains Conference in India next week.

Under the theme "Developments in Grain Science and Technology to Ensure High Quality, Safe and Healthy Grain-based Foods," the conference will be held from January 16-18 in New Delhi, an ICRISAT(International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) statement said.

The meet is aimed to open up new challenges and opportunities towards improving the quality, safety and nutritional value of grain-based foods, it added.

The three-day conference will serve as a forum for networking and exchange of information among various sectors of the local and international grains industry and policy makers.

It will also bring together grain scientists and technologists, breeders, millers, bakers, cereal and grain food processors, suppliers and traders to discuss the quality, safety and nutritional value of grain and foods made from cereals, with specific reference to the needs of India and the Indian subcontinent, the statement added.

"The demand for grains is growing as a number of major global issues continue to impact the worlds food security," says ICRISAT Director General William D Dar.

ICC Secretary General cum Chief Executive Officer, Roland E Poms, said while focused on the Indian context, the programme is also globally relevant as it covers such areas as crop improvement, storage and nutrition processing and analysis for all major cereal grains and products.
