The Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU) conducted various contests to celebrate the World Hindi Day.
Celebrated annually on January 10 to mark the first Hindi conference held in Nagpur in 1975, the World Hindi Day event at IGNOU received overwhelming response from the employees, the university said in a release here.
Addressing a gathering, IGNOU Vice Chancellor M Aslam emphasised that Hindi is a link language which covers the entire country, including Delhi where people come from across the country.
"Hindi is the link language to converse with each other," he said, adding that foreigners who visit India try to learn a word or two from the language but we are hesitant in using it in official work.
"It is necessary to publicise Hindi voluntarily rather than under pressure," Aslam stressed.
The university awarded 10 winners of a quiz and a typing test held as part of the celebration.
