Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Assembly today unanimously passed an unofficial resolution to establish a new varstiy in Bundelkhand region of the state as the only university existed in the area has been converted into a Central University.
The resolution was moved by Yadvendra Singh of Congress stating that after the conversion of Dr Hari Singh Gaur University, Sagar as Central University the colleges situated in the area are facing the problem of affiliation resulting in a big question mark over the future of large number of students of the area.
Replying to the resolution, the State's Higher and School Education Minister, Archana Chitnis urged the House to amend the resolution by adding the name of Sagar as the probable place along with Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh, and also taking the financial help of Central Government for setting up the new university.
The Minister also thanked former HRD Minister Arjun Singh for ensuring that the State gets its first Central University at Sagar. The House agreed to the Minister's amendments and passed the resolution unanimously.
Later, talking to reporters Chitnis said that till the new university comes into existence, the colleges of the region will be affiliated to the nearby state universities and all efforts would be made to ensure that the future of the students will not get affected in the absence of any state varsity in the region.
The Minister said that the demand of financial help is genuine, as the State government has given entire infrastructure including nearly 1,000 acre land of Dr Hari Singh Gaur University to the Centre for establishing a Central University.
"If they began from a scratch then naturally they will have to spend nearly Rs 400-500 crore to establish a university of the central level," she added.
Earlier, the Assembly also approved with a voice vote two amendments to bring under the government's purview the Bhoj Open Universtiy and Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Garmodaya Vishwavidyalaya under the state government's control like the existing seven universities of the states.
