University of Calcutta to host 100th Science Congress

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the General President of the 100th edition of the Indian Science Congress to be hosted by University of Calcutta from January 3 to 7 next year.

The decision was taken at the Executive Council meeting of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) on the concluding day of the 99th Indian Science Congress here.
 
"University of Calcutta will host the 100th edition of the Indian Science Congress," Amit Krishna De, Executive Secretary of ISCA told.
 
At the concluding session of the 99th Science Congress, B Hari Gopal, Adviser, in the Department of Science and Technology took charge as General President on behalf of the Prime Minister from outgoing General President Geetha Bali.
 
The Prime Minister had informed ISCA that Secretary, Department of Science and Technology would look into the day-to-day affairs of Science Congress on his behalf during his tenure as the General President, sources said.
 
Some other institutes in Kolkata are also expected to be roped in as associate-hosts for the five-day event next year.
 
Singh had inaugurated the 99th Science Congress at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology campus here on Tuesday. The five-day event saw participation of more than 15,000 delegates, including scientists and students.
