First phase campus placement completes at IIT - Madras

With 769 students getting placements out of the 1208 registered for campus placements, 63% of the students have got placed in various segements as on Dec 23, 2011 at the close of the first phase.

The campus recruitment for the 2012 batch passing out students commenced on 01 December 2011.

1208 students (BTech 284; Dual 223; MTech 344; MBA 67; MA 27; MSc 77; MS 123; PhD 63) had registered for placement. Totally, 330 companies had given consent to come for placement out of which 209 companies have completed their selection process.

As on 23rd December, 769 students (BTech 221 ; Dual 183 ; MTech 213 ; MBA 62; MA 4; MSc 10; MS 58; PhD 18) have been placed (63%).

The significant thing is that most of the PhD graduates were placed on one-on-one basis before completing their degree.

During the last academic year's recruitement, 172 companies recruited 627 students.

The first phase of campus placement activities have been completed on 23.12.2011.

First time, companies like Sony Corporation (Japan), Pocket Gems (USA), Infoaxe (USA), EPIC (USA), Honda (Japan), NTT Communications (Japan), Gulf Talent, Social Soft (USA), Hyundai Motors, Paypal, WS Atkins, UoP Honeywell, Commvault etc. visited the campus. PSUs like NTPC, HAL, ISRO, Indian Navy, Power Grid etc. have also visited this year.

Furthermore, core engineering companies like Ashok Leyland, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hero Moto Corp, Coromandel Fertilizers, Murugappa Group etc. have visited the campus this year.

For some placements in the USA, the compensation offered has been as high as USD135000. In general, most of the companies have offered packages between 4 lakhs and 15 lakhs per annum.

Students placed in Hyundai Motors will be sponsored for a 2 year Post Graduate Program in Top Management / Engineering School in South Korea. On successful completion of this program, they will have the opportunity to work at their Headquarters in South Korea for 2 years as part of Professional Development Program. They will also have an opportunity for a Global Assignment for 2 years at any of their overseas corporations.

M/s Taiwan Semiconducter Manufacturing Company Ltd, Taiwan have recruited MS and PhD Scholars for their R&D pision.

IIT continues to schedule company recruitment processes in January 2012 with 2-3 companies per day.
