PG diploma in filmmaking launched at Loyola

Chennai: A one-year PG diploma programme in filmmaking was launched at Loyola on Thursday.

Speaking at the launching function, renowned editor and director B. Lenin, who is also the honorary course director, said the programme was aimed at nurturing skills required for filmmaking.
The duration of the course will be three trimesters, which will focus on areas like creative thinking, image making, screenplay writing, planning and budgeting, production management, practical direction, editing for meaning, contextualising special effects, sound sense, film economics and film ethics.

With prolonged discussion with, S. Rajanayagam, the dean of the School of Media Studies, this dream has become reality today with several veterans agreeing to be part of the course.

The faculty team will include eminent technicians such as editors R. Vittal, A. Paul Durai Singam, Antony and Suresh Urs and directors Keyar, Guhanathan and Gangai Amaran.

The course will be offered by the Department of Filmmaking, School of Media Studies, Loyola College.

The course will be made flexible and offered in different shifts. At the end of the year, toppers would be honoured with the Director Bhim Singh awards for best screenplay, direction and editing.
