Anand Krishnamurthy's cinematic aspirations began when he got the opportunity to be sub editor of the festival magazine of the International Film Festival of Kerala in 2009. He was then just a literature student at Maharajas College.
Anand scripted and directed a short film on child labour titledMirage and won the Best upcoming director award in the recently concluded ‘Sign Short Film Festival’ in November.
Out of the six short films that he has directed, Anand has scripted four of them and has also been a part of other short films directed by his colleagues. Speaking about the difficulties that every aspiring short film maker encounters, Anand says, “Most short films are either shot on mobile phones or handy cams due to the lack of funds. Here, returns are limited unlike in feature films and it is only through short film festivals that this mini-art form has been kept alive,” he added.
Mirage has been short-listed to be screened as the opening film in the International Children’s Short Film Festival, which will be held in January. The young short film director has been blessed with a couple of producers for his future projects and also received an offer to do a signature short film for a film festival to be held in March.
