The city government told the Delhi High Court that it has provided a temporary office and other facilities to the Justice Anil Dev Singh committee, set up to examine a notification permitting unaided private schools to hike tuition fees.

The Delhi government, in a status report, intimated a bench of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Siddharth Mridul that it has made an "immediate arrangement" at Vikas Bhawan II near Metcalf House here till the renovation work concludes at the original office allotted to the Committee.

"Since the renovation work is time taking time,...an immediate arrangement for office space at Vikas Bhawan II, near Metcalf house has been made. The Committee can start working from next week from this place," the report, filed by Assistant Director P Lata Tara of the government, said.

It also said that the renovation of alloted office at Vasant Vihar would conclude within two months.

The court, which had earlier taken strong note of the delay in allotting an office to the committee, was assured by the city government on November 17 that it will provide the infrastructural facilities to Justice Singh and his support staff within four weeks.

Earlier, the Committee, of Justice Singh and noted Chartered Accountant J S Kochar, was appointed to examine the validity of the city government's February 2009 notification permitting private unaided schools to hike their tuition fees.

The order had come on a petition filed by 'Delhi Abhibhavak Mahasangh', a parents body, alleging that despite the schools having surplus money, the government allowed them to hike the tuition fees. The report of the Comptroller and Auditors General of India had also affirmed it.
