Success in the green fields has been doubled up by the success in the classrooms in the state. Besides achieving one of the highest agricultural growths in the country, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) in the state has been ranked as number one for its agribusiness management programme, across five continents.
The Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGP-ABM) at IIM-A has been ranked as World's no 1 in the 'Best Masters in Agribusiness / Food Industry Management Global Ranking'. The ranking is given by a consulting company based in France called Eduniversal which also functions as a rating agency specializing in Higher Education.
"The ranking company is quite popular in the academic circle. So ranking the top is a good feeling. We have been ranked ahead of many reputed institutes like ESSEC business school of France, University of California, Berkeley and others," said the dean of alumni and external relationships at IIM-A, Atanu Ghosh.
Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile of Chile has been ranked number two while ESSEC business school of France has been ranked third in the list.
"This is one of the best things that have happened to me. The achievement has been through the efforts of the institute as a whole. Till now recruiting companies did not given sufficient attention to the students of the programme. However such a ranking will highlight the significance of the programme," said chairperson of PGP-ABM professor, Goutam Dutta.
"Rankings, however, should not be given too much importance as there are various factors behind the ranking. At the ABM programme, we should not be complacent about the ranking but we have to work towards improving the programme in various ways," added Dutta.
The Post Graduate Program in Agribusiness Management of IIM-Lucknow has been ranked 35th in the list.
