The higher education sector was yet to utilise the services offered through information and communication technologies, TN Higher Edu. Minister Palaniappan said.
Participating in a seminar organised by industry body CII, he said, "there has been a phenomenal growth in ICT. But, the higher education sector is yet to optimally exploit it".
Expressing concerns that the classrooms were still remaining as black-board based, offering little scope for interaction, he said, "this has to change for the better. Innovative modes of teaching and learning (methodologies) are to be deployed".
He said the State, as part of providing quality education, there are plans afoot in strengthening the open and distance learning mode to resolve the question of quality and quantity in higher education.
He also said as part of achieving inclusive education, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had established of 11 arts and science colleges in rural areas.
CII Southern region, Education forum Chairperson Dr Nandini R said the CII National Committee on Higher Education was preparing a report on allowing Foreign Direct Investments in Higher Education in India.
"It is under way. It will be presented to Central Government. The deliberations are still going on.." she said.
