The Vasundhara Academy of Performing Arts showcased their annual show, ‘Vasutsav’ at G D Birla Sabha Ghar recently. The academy was started by Odissi Danseuse Vasundhara Gupta seven years back.
It trains young children to learn dance and music not only as a performing art but also as a teaching skill. According to Vasundhara, “Knowledge of the art needs to be shared; or else it gets wasted, thus we believe in teaching in a way that in future our students can become good trainers, and this has been witnessed over the year.”
This year’s annual show showcased classical Odissi steps deftly merged into modern and contemporary light dance moves. The show attempted to capture the various moods and emotions all of which resulted in the grand presentation called Sajda.
Young children performed in two sessions, dancing like pros and enjoying all the cheers they received from the audience. The show started with a classical performance by a group of under privileged children from Disha, an organisation that helps these children.
The other performances were divided into different sections, each showcasing the diverse relationship and feelings of human. From showing the importance of sports in a student’s life through dance on ‘Khele hum jee jaan se’ to the youth party mood and importance of friendship through jazz and salsa dance forms, the performances represented the reality of today’s life.
An emotional presentation on ‘Maa’ showed the beautiful relation of a child with his mother. Dance on some old melodies did strike a chord with the elderly presented at the event.
Shamit Kumar, a parent said, “This is the first year of my son, and it indeed is a proud moment for the whole family to see him up on stage.” The tiny tots performed without any inhibitions or nervousness.
They received the loudest cheer on their Dabbang act. The choreography and production was marvelous and the costumes added to the drama. Music was peppy and pleasing to the ears. The performances was followed by the prize distribution.
