Tamil novelist Su Venkatesan, whose book has earned him the coveted Sahitya Akademi Award in Tamil section, said it was a "due recognition given to an eligible creation at the right time."

"I am extremely happy on getting this award. It's a due recognition given to eligible work at the right time," the 41-year old writer told. Venkatesan has been chosen for the award for his debut novel 'Kaval Kottam', about the 600-year old history of the city of Madurai till 1920 and a security system that prevailed there.

"They say I am probably the youngest to get the award this time and the first time it's given for a debut and only novel. Generally, these awards are given only to senior authors. Happy to receive it when I am young. I am delighted to be given the award now (at this age)," he said.

A Tamil film was also taken by Director Vasanthabalan with its plot based on a part of the book. Eight books of poetry, seven novels, three essays, one each of short story, narrative history and a biography received the Akademi awards for 2011 announced.
