Over 1,500 schools out of the 3,660 in the national capital, which applied for Fire Safety Certificate, do not have prescribed fire safety measures and have been asked to rectify the shortcomings, the Government said today.
Minister of State for Home M Ramachandran said as on November 30, 2011 Delhi Fire Service received 3,660 applications from schools for issue of fire safety certificate. "2069 school buildings have complied the fire prevention and fire safety measures and have been issued NOC/Fire Safety Certificate," he told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said a total of 1591 schools have not taken prescribed fire safety measures and they have been issued instructions to rectify the shortcomings. The shortcomings were found out during inspection by the Delhi Fire Service for grant of Fire Safety Certificate, he said.
The Minister also said owners or occupiers of educational buildings in Delhi have been directed to obtain Fire Safety Certificate as required under Rule 35 of the Delhi Fire Service Act 2007 and Rules 2010.
