SAT orders not to exceed 50 pc quota ceiling in OCS exams

In an interim order, the State Administrative Tribunal(SAT) today directed the Odisha government and the state Public Service Commission(OPSC) not to provide quota in excess of 50 percent to reserved categories in the posts of Odisha Civil Services for which advertisement was made recently.
   
Taking up an original application filed by an aspirant Manoj Kumar Panda, the SAT chairman Justice Nityananda Prusty in his interim order said that in no case the number of posts for reserved categories should exceed the 50 per cent ceiling as laid down in various judgements of the Supreme Court.
   
The SAT also in its order clarified that the final recruitment for various posts advertised by the OPSC for OCS examinations should be subjected to the final disposal of the original application pending before this Tribunal.
  
The petitioner in his application had challenged the recent advertisement made by the OPSC for recruitment to the posts of Odisha Administrative Service(OAS), Odisha Police Service(OPS), Odisha Co-operative Services, Odisha Revenue Services and Odisha Taxation and Accounts Services.
  
While the OPSC has invited applications from eligible candidates to recruit 364 posts in various categories, as many as 202 posts(55.49 percent) in these categories are reserved for SC, ST and SEBC candidates.
  
Out of 364 posts to be filled up, the advertisement earlier this week says that 59 posts are reserved for SC candidates, 81 posts for ST candidates and 62 are reserved for SEBC candidates. Besides there will be reservation for ex-servicemen and sports category candidates.
