Need to increase seats available for B.Tech courses in Delhi

Government today said seats available in B.Tech courses in Delhi were meagre in comparison to the city's population and there was a need to increase them.

"The total number of seats available in B.Tech courses in various institutes approved by AICTE in Delhi for B E/B Tech programme are 8433 for academic year 2011-12," Minister of State in HRD ministry D Purandeswari said while replying to a question in "The population of Delhi is 1,38,50507 and the number of seats available for B.Tech course is less than one per cent.

Therefore, there is need to increase number of seats," she said. Responding to another question, she said the ministry had planned to start a channel based on higher education.
 
The ministry's request to ISRO for providing two transponders had been noted by the space agency and sent to the INSAT coordination committee, she said.
