UGC seeks proposals from varsities on new start-up initiative

UGC has invited proposals from universities about a new start-up initiative aimed at strengthening scientific research targeting at the newly recruited faculty at the level of assistant professor.

Teachers who are appointed at this level in the faculties of Basic Science, Engineering and Technology will be eligible to receive financial support under the 'research start-up grant' scheme to the tune of Rs 6 lakh for research purpose.

The assistant professor should possess Ph.D degree with minimum two research publications in approved or cited journals, said UGC officials.

Candidates should apply within a period of six months from the date of joining.

The scheme was mooted by an UGC empowerment committee which is spearheading a national effort to strengthen basic scientific research in universities and colleges.

"The committee will select the candidates for the scheme on the basis of expert appraisal," said an UGC notice.
