A court in Ramanathapuram district has directed police to register a case against Anna University of Technology officials for allegedly not paying for the houses it had taken on rent for providing hostel facilities to students of its campus.
The Judicial Magistrate Court in Ramanathapuram was passing orders on a complaint by K Seyyad Ahamad Kabir.
The complainant submitted that he had rented 10 houses to AUT under an agreement signed with its Registrar R M Chandrasekar in 2008 for its campus in Ramanathapuram. Later, university Dean Balasubramanian approached him to let out two other vacant houses also.
Though he insisted on a separate agreement for the two houses, Balasubramanian allegedly delayed signing it for 20 months even after the university started using the two houses as student hostels.
Kabir alleged that the university authorities caused loss to him, willfully. Even after the Ramanthapuram campus was shifted to Madurai, the dues were not settled.
Despite complaining to the police, no action was taken, he said adding hence he moved the court.
