Common Admission Test (CAT) scores, which are used as a selection criteria for management Programmes by the IIMs, FMS, IITs, IISc and several other institutes in India as well as abroad likley to be available twice in a year.
With the CAT 2011 results expected to be out on January 11, 2012, its organizers are discussing for the next year. Deliberations are on to conduct CAT exams twice in a year for the convenience of working class.
With the fact that increasing number of institutes are considering CAT's scores for admission to their management programmes, the number of candidates appearing for CAT has gone up considerably.
An IIM official said that a significant number of working class want to go for the exams, but due to their routine professional life, attending CAT is difficult for them as compared to fresh graduates.
Convenor for CAT 2011, Prof. Jankiraman Moorthy said that they are deliberating to make CAT available twice in a year, especially for the sake of working class aspirants.
As the discussions are in its infant stage, nothing is confirmed now.
Last year, after CAT 2010, there were talks that candidates would be able to sit in exam any time of the year but Moorthy explained that as per his knowledge, discussions are on about making CAT available twice a year and not throughout.
Several, working professionals are looking forward to appear for the test next year said that it would be a positive step. Candidates can apply for CAT in either autumn or spring as per thier convenience.
