Victoria govt to impart special training to Maha teachers

The Victorian government in collaboration with a Melbourne-based institute announced a specially-designed vocational training program for select ITI teachers in Maharashtra.

300 teachers from state industrial training centres have been selected for the ten-day training program, being organised by the Australian federal government in association with 'Kangan', an institute based in Melbourne, beginning in Aurangabad and later in ITI Aundh, Pune and Nagpur.

"It (the training program) will be based on the Victoria's well regarded vocational training model but it will be customised for Maharashtra. The aim for the program is to help teachers become self-sustainable in future to meet demanded skills," CEO of Kangan Institute, Ray Griffiths told reporters.

Kangan is a Technical and Further Education provider located over a number of campuses in Australia's Melbourne and Victoria.

The program module would support the Maharashtra government in implementing competency-based teaching and learning methods in vocational sectors, he said.

The VETASSESS assessment centre in Maharashtra would be also assisting in conducting the program.

State Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Rajesh Tope will inaugurate the event tomorrow here which will be attended by senior officials of the Victorian government.

"Till now, 500 students had been sent to Australia under the student exchange program, while a total of nine trainers from Australia have come to Maharashtra for imparting the training," said VETASAESS coordinator Vrushal Khandke.
