AAPSU urges govt solve NIT problems

Distressed at the 'poor' condition of states lone National Institute of Technology (NIT), the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) urged the state government to solve problems of the prestigious institute.

"We appeal the state government to provide accommodation to NIT Director Prof C T Bhunia at Yupia as early as possible so that he can work closely for students' welfare," AAPSU president Takam Tatung said in a statement.

Tatung, who led a team of AAPSU members to the NIT complex at Yupia in Papum Pare district to assess the situation, said the state government should also provide additional fund for proper functioning of the institute.

A series of problems including erratic power supply, lack of drinking water facilities, non-availability of dormitories, lack of transportation and faculties, non-establishment of laboratories and library were hampering the students, he said.

The AAPSU also requested all the three MPs of the state to move the Union HRD Ministry to help sort out the problems of the NIT.
