Chennai: As this year counselling for engineering admissions is set to end early, the second phase would begin on July 30 .
As per earlier plan the counselling for engineering admissions was to end on August 16 and now due quick processing and few absentees the process would end on August 10.
Consequently, the phase-II counselling would now begin on July 30 for students who have scored 160.50 marks in the engineering cut-off, and would go on till August 10.
Every individual would receive communications concerning this, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2009, said on its website.
V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary, TNEA 2009, said the change in the schedule was due to 3,200 students were being called for counselling each day this year by Anna University compared to 2,000 students each day last year.
As result of better infrastructure this was possible, he said.
He also said that there has been an increase in the number of absentees at counselling. Nearly 25,000 candidates did not submit the application forms they had bought.
He said the figures could not be compared directly as more students were being called each day this year, but said that there was roughly an increase of 2-3 per cent in the number of abstentions over last year.
Without knowing the reason from the students for dropping out, this increase could not be explained, he added.
