Cabinet approves setting up of 2500 model schools under PPP mode

Government approved a private-public partnership pattern for setting up of 2500 model schools across the country.

The schools, the first of its kind in the country, will come up during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17).

The proposal, which was cleared by the Union Cabinet, envisages setting up of the schools with charactarisctis with emphasis on teaching of Science, Maths and English and bridge-courses for weaker students.

According to sources, each school will have up to 2,000 seats, with the Centre sponsoring 980 students. The rest of the over 1,000 seats will remain with the private management.

The private players will purchase the land and constuct the buildings. The schools will have classes from VI to XII and will be affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The schools would have specialised faculty dealing with behavioural issues of students and find a solution to emotional problems.

The government has envisaged a total of 6000 model schools, of which these 2500 model schools will be set up under PPP mode.
