Gujarat govt's annual programme of evaluating primary schools began with chief minister Narendra Modi visiting a Muslim community dominated government school of Jaswantgadh- Bhemal village of Banskantha district.
The state government every year evaluates its primary schools, and council of ministers, top bureaucrats and eminent persons visit schools across the state for three days and rank them.
The state government has launched the 'Gunotsav' programme to raise the quality of education in government primary schools.
Without prior indication, the Chief Minister went to the Jasawantgadh-Bhemal village school to see for himself the kind of academic atmosphere, adequacy of the teaching staff, students competency in the subjects like computer and maths.
The school is situated some 30 kilometres from Ambaji and have majority of students from Muman-Muslim community studying in class 1 to 8.
Talking with the teachers, Chief Minister said the state government would not tolerate if they do not carry out their responsibilities.
He said that two of the Muman girls wrote to him that they wanted to carry on their studies but can not as their parents dont want so.
The entire Council of Ministers, led by Chief Minister, IAS officers and 3,000-odd officials are participating in the 3rd Gunotsav campaign to evaluate 32,274 government primary schools in the state.
