Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Chairman R Sellamuthu told the Madras High Court that he had discharged his duties as part of the Commission collectively and not deviated from prescribed procedure in the matter of appointments.
In a counter affidavit to a writ petition by advocate R Krishnamurthy, who sought cancellation of all direct recruitments for various services in government made by the Commission since his appointment as Chairman, Sellamuthu said the entire writ petition was based on newspaper reports and there was no specific allegation of any irregularity in the process of selection to various posts.
"The so-called incriminating documents" which had allegedly been seized during the search by police could be explained by him to the satisfaction of any independent authority, he said.
The Commission, he said, had been adopting a well defined and standard procedure for the entire process of selection of meritorious candidates, starting from the notification of vacancies, conduct of examinations and interviews to the preparation of the selection list.
The Commission procedure could not be deviated or ignored by anyone connected with the selection process, he submitted claiming that after his assumption to the office of Chairman, no procedure had been changed or deviated.
Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department officials had last month conducted raids on the residence and offices of Sellamuthu and its members on vaious charges, including criminal misconduct by obtaining pecuniary advantage and abuse of official position among others.
In August, the state government had brought TNPSC Chairman and its members under the purview of the state Vigilance Commission and the DVAC.
