School cricketers shine

The inaugural Louis Emanuel Premier League T-20 championship, organised by St. Andrews High School under the guidance of John Manoj, Sports coordinator, was the first of its kind in the twin cities which showcased the young talent.

There were quite a few novelties and the best being the final played under flood-lights at the School Grounds in Bowenpally. For the record, St. Andrews re-asserted it supremacy with an emphatic, 10-wicket win over Cal Public School in the final to the lusty cheers of the ‘home crowd'. Batting first, Cal was restricted to 116 for eight with Praneeth Reddy being the lead scorer (43). For St. Andrews, Krishna charith and Amer bowled well taking three wickets apiece.

In reply, Andrews was never in trouble thanks to the fine display by openers B. Rahul(49 not out) and Bhagat Varma (50). Charith was the player of the final and Bhagat Varma player of the tournament. The winner was given a handsome purse of Rs 50,000 and the runner-up Rs 25,000.

Special prizes were also given to Syed Alamdar of All Saint's (highest scorer 262 runs), Krishna Charith (highest wicket-takers) and Hridya Vikas (highest number of catches 7). Former India wicketkeeper Sadanand Vishwanath gave away the prizes.
