Kashmir CU issue discusses in next cabinet meeting: Omar

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the land compensation and livelihood issues for the families affected by the establishment of Central University in Ganderbal district of Kashmir valley would be discussed by the cabinet in its next meeting for clearance.

"The land compensation and livelihood generating issues for the families affected by the establishment of Central University in Ganderbal district would be discussed by the cabinet in its next meeting for clearance", Omar said while taking stock of the progress of work on the establishment of the University and receiving a first-hand appraisal of the status of various other projects in the district through a video conference with the pisional Commissioner, Kashmir.

The Chief Minister fixed the deadline of December-end 2011 for completion of Shadipora Bridge in Kashmir and approved Rs one crore for its completion. Reviewing the progress of work on construction of Physical Education complex at Gadoora at an estimated cost of Rs 30.39 crores, Omar approved release of Rs 5 crores for accelerating the pace of work.

He also approved Rs 1.50 crore for the construction of a polytechnic and Rs 3.75 crore for a 200-bed hospital. The Chief Minister directed the Health and Planning Departments to work out a substantial funding pattern for the completion of a hospital within the stipulated timeframe by at least arranging Rs 10 crores annually for the hospital from next financial year.

The Chief Minister got appraisal of the construction of a mini maternity centre at Wayil and approved the release of Rs 61 lakh for its completion during the current year. The District Development Commissioner Ganderbal highlighted the issue of 4-lanning of National Highway from Zakura to Wayil and requested the Chief Minister for taking up the issue with the Defence Minister.

Matters relating to the fixing of rates for bricks and their availability to the Government Departments for construction purposes were also discussed by the Chief Minister through video conferencing. Omar directed the pisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon to discuss the issue with the District Development Commissioners of the Valley where brick kilns are in operation and finalize the issue urgently.

Later, the Chief Minister discussed the matters relating to rehabilitation of affected traders by Indira Gandhi Road improvement programme in a separate meeting of the concerned departments. He directed fast-tracking of the process of rehabilitation and settlement of matters amicably in a time-bound manner.
