Sibal launches 'National On-line Examination System

Minister for communications, IT and human resource development, Kapil Sibal launched the 'National On-line Examination System' in the City on Monday. The system has been developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the sponsorship by the department of information technology, Government of India.

The online system allows examination to be conducted from multiple locations spread over the country over multiple slots over a longer period. The system permits the candidates to elect the date, time and venue. Being a totally computerised system, the results are ready as soon as the last slot of examination is complete.

Speaking on the advantage of the system, director general of C-DAC, professor Rajat Moona said that it is linked with a multi-stage interview system as well. "The system centrally controls the conduct of the interviews and makes available the composite results on the performance of the candidate in the online examination, to the interview committee. The final interview committee will get the composite results of the online examination as well as the observations of the first level interview committee. The service is now available on a per usage basis," said Moona.

With the use of this system, the turn-around-time from the date of publication of advertisement to declaration of final merit list after online examination and two levels of interviews will typically be around 45 days for a large recruitment drive.

Launching the system, Sibal said that the conventional paper oriented manual examination system is time consuming, inefficient and unfriendly to the environment. He expressed hope that the online examination system will pave the way for a clean, fair and efficient examination and evaluation process.
