Tiruvannamalai: Four more engineering colleges are expected to come up in Tiruvannamalai district in the current academic year.
Most anticipated among them is the Government Engineering College, proposed to come up in Arani taluk.
While referring to the commencement of the college in this academic year itself, the collector (in-charge) S. Viswanathan replied that since Rural Extension Training Center was functioning in the Zameen bungalow which has also been chosen as temporary premises for the college, steps have been taken to shift the center to some other place, so that college can start from this year itself. A site near Thatchur Samathuvapuram has been identified to construct own campus for the upcoming engineering college.
One more institution that has been started this year in Tiruvannamalai as fourth Self Finance Engineering College is SKP Institute of Technology, a college from SKP Engineering college group. This college offers undergraduate streams in civil, mechanical, computer science and ECE with a total sanctioned strength of 240 seats.
Two more engineering colleges are proposed to start near Polur, an educationally backward region in the district. Ex- MLA Rajendran who is initiating Oxford College of Engineering near Polur said that they are expecting to get AICTE approval very soon and hope to start the college from the current academic year itself.
Along with already existing half a dozen engineering colleges in Tiruvannamalai district these new colleges would make accessibility to engineering education a much easier task for rural students of the nearby villages.
