The Jammu and Kashmir government made it clear that the Board of Professional Entrance Examination will conduct the entrance test for admission to medical colleges in the state for 2012-13, dismissing reports about Medical Council of India holding the examination.
"The medical entrance 2012-13 shall not be covered under Medical Council of India (MCI) for allotment of seats in the medical colleges located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir," State Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Sports, R S Chib said.
He was reacting to some media reports that MCI was trying to get hold of medical colleges in the state for allotment of seats under the admission guidelines of MCI.
The minister said MCI had tried to approach the government with the intention to cover all the medical colleges in the state for admission under their admission guidelines but they were specifically informed that the same "will not be allowed" under the provision of special laws of the state, he said.
"Our argument has been well taken and the medical entrance examination for admission in medical colleges in the state for the year 2012-13 shall be conducted by BOPEE as per past practice and not by the MCI," Chib said.
