Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said his government would vigorously implement the Right to Education Mission to bring in a total transformation in the society.
The mission was launched coinciding with the National Education Day.
"The adoption of Right to Education by the UPA government as one of the fundamental rights would bring about a sea change in education sector and usher in development on all fronts," he said.
Gogoi said his government had always laid emphasis on education from primary to university level as it was the only way that a state or a society could forge ahead.
He underscored the need for reducing dropout rates and increase enrollment in schools and said his government would expand the Gyanjyoti scheme in the state.
Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also spoke on the occasion.
