The Tamil Nadu Private Schools Fee Determination Committee has recommended derecognition of six city schools for allegedly demanding fee higher than the stipulated amount.
"I have recommended the Matriculation school Board Director to derecognise six schools for demanding more fees than that stipulated," Justice S R Singaravelu, Chairman, Private Schools Fee Determination Committee told reporters here.
"The decision was taken since these schools were taken, since they continued to collect more fee, even after warnings to them in this regard," he said.
There were over 300 complaints alleging that certain schools were demanding more fee than determined, he said.
The chairman also said that he will take necessary action through courts to deal with schools which demanded higher fee.
On October 18, the chairman served a show cause notice to a private school in the city for allegedly demanding more fees.
The committee was constituted on 7 December, 2009, to determine the fee structure in private schools across the state following complaints from parents of excess fees being collected by schools.
