Haryana's O P Jindal Global University has inked a deal with a Mozambique-based NGO to train their workers here about empowering vulnerable sections of the society to participate in self-governance and justice.
The initiative involves training of Mozambican workers and NGOs by faculty members and students of Jindal Global Law School of JGU, who are implementing a 'Good Rural Governance and Citizen Participation Model' in over 100 villages of Haryana, a statement issued by the university said.
The deal was inked between a human development and social empowerment initiative with the Crianca Nosso Futuro Institute (CNFI), a leading non-governmental organisation which works under the office of First Lady of the Republic of Mozambique
Maria Da Luz Guebuza.
In return, students of JGU would do internships in rural development organisations in Mozambique to learn how African civil society is facing socio-economic challenges and issues relating to legal empowerment in Africa.
Speaking on the occasion, Guebuza also delivered Jindal Global Lecture on 'Gender and Empowerment in Africa' and said "my government is committed to learning from India's experiences in uplift of downtrodden sections within a democratic system."
Vice Chancellor of JGU, Dr C Raj Kumar said India and Mozambique have come closer due to this historic agreement, which is first of its kind done by any Indian university with the objective of advancing the goal of public service.
