If police heeds a Bangalore University request, answer scripts will get the same security given to ballot boxes.
Soon after a students' sting operation busted an exam malpractice racket in Bangalore University, vice-chancellor N Prabhu Dev swung into action and sought police protection for answer scripts. He wrote to the police commissioner to provide the same security given to ballot boxes after elections and before counting. He has asked for armed security guards for round-the-clock protection at all evaluation centres during exams and evaluation.
A high-profile committee with two joint police commissioners and S Ramakrishna, retired IGP as members and VC as chair will be constituted. Two joint commissioners will suggest a foolproof security system for conduct of exams and evaluation, including total CCTV coverage and personal ID cards. The VC has also called for more use of technology in examinations. BU is already on its path of examination reforms, starting with digitization.
On Friday, a group of NSUI students released a CD that carried images of a student with his answer script outside the exam centre. They had conducted a sting operation where they paid money to an official who got the answer script out of the evaluation centre. The tout was arrested soon after the CD release.
"This unfortunate incident has strengthened our desire to make the examination and evaluation process foolproof and transparent. I will take this as a stepping stone for further improvements and reforms in the examination system," the VC said.
