The higher and technical education department has called a high-level meeting of ministers to build consensus for the introduction of the Maharashtra State Unauthorised Institutes and Courses Prohibition Act (MSUICP).
The Act aims to stop ‘illegal and unauthorised’ institutes and courses in Maharashtra. “Ministers from four to five departments will attend the meeting to discuss the subject. The suggestions made during the meeting will be incorporated in the draft. After getting consent from the ministers on the points mentioned in the draft, the proposal will be tabled in the next cabinet meeting,” said Rajesh Tope, minister for higher and technical education.
A senior official attached to the department said the Act is not limited to keeping tabs on higher and technical department courses, but also on institutes offering courses related to animal husbandry, fisheries, medical education and social justice.
“The policy deals with several departments, as a result all ministers concerned are called for the meeting to be held in Mantralaya on Thursday,” the official added. He further stated that the draft for the Act was ready and had received nod to be introduced in the earlier state cabinet meeting. But the agenda was changed at the last minute following a suggestion from a senior Congress minister that all ministers concerned be heard on the issue. “A written consent should be taken from these ministers or their department so that there is no political row over the issue,” the official said.
