The delay in amending a notification for holding the first all India National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission to MBBS courses across the country is causing worry to aspirants.
Government had earlier proposed to hold an all India medical entrance examination for admission in under-graduate courses in all 335 government and private medical colleges across the country.
The government has already decided not to hold the NEET for postgraduate courses for 2012. It will be held for these courses from next year. The aim for holding the NEET was to help at least 10 lakh medical aspirants to take one single entrance test and not sit for multiple entrance examinations for admission to MBBS courses.
The Medical Council of India (MCI), which is to hold the NEET from 2012, has sought the Health Ministry's nod for amending the earlier notification for taking out the merit list of the proposed entrance test from percentile scores instead of the percentage scores.
The notification for holding the NEET was issued by the Health Ministry last year but MCI has now decided to take out the merit list on the basis of percentilie score of students taking the exam.
An MCI official, when contacted, told that the Health Ministry is likely to accord sanction for the amendment in the notification soon after his return from abroad.
