The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has held back the approval of the merit list of first-year students of Datta Meghe College of Engineering, Airoli, after representatives from the teaching faculty complained about non-payment of their dues. The teachers had approached the technical board with several issues concerning their salaries and promotions.
Teachers from Shri Ram Polytechnic College and Datta Meghe College of Engineering, both run by the same management on one campus, met DTE officials several times in the last three to four months, requesting them to initiate action against the college management. “The college has stopped giving us annual increments from 2010. They are yet to give us our new salary package based on the Sixth Pay Commission,” alleged a teacher from the college. Teachers had also struck work in August and September for 10 days, but to no avail.
S K Mahajan, director of DTE, said, “We have asked the college for an explanation in the matter. The merit list is held back for some days. We will have a hearing in the matter post-Diwali and then take the decision on the matter.” Holding back the merit list means the admissions of these students are not approved yet.
The college’s chairman, Subir Banerjee said, “The non-teaching staff has moved the HC for the same salary issue, so the matter is pending in the court.” He refused to comment on the matter claiming that it is sub-judice.
