Maharashtra officers demand extension of ceiling limit for OBC

The Maharashtra State Officers Forum demanded Central government to raise the annual income threshold for the OBC creamy layer from current Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.
 
Maharashtra State Officers Forum's district unit secretary Namdev Thool said the current upper limit is inadequate as inflation is on rise besides rising prices of essential commodities.
 
"As per the prevailing rules, the ceiling of the income limit has to be revised every three years and it was Rs 2.5 lakh till the latest revision in 2008 which was on the basis of the 4th pay commission recommendations," Thool said.
 
He contended that the creamy layer ceiling has deprived 70 per cent of the OBC students from benefits of various government concessions.
 
The Forum has urged the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik to take an appropriate decision in this regard so that the students hailing from the OBC creamy layer quota can also be benefited from the coming academic session.
