Set up Centre of Excellence on Telugu in Hyderabad: AP Govt

AP CM N Kiran Kumar Reddy has requested the Central to set up the proposed Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu Language in Potti Sriramulu Telugu University in the city.

In a letter addressed to Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today, Reddy said grave injustice would be caused to the Telugu-speaking people if the Centre of Excellence is established at any place other than Hyderabad.
 
It has been learnt that the HRD Ministry is proposing to establish the centre at the Central Institute of Indian Language at Mysore in Karnataka, an official release said. The Chief Minister said Telugu language is spoken by over 8.5 crore people in India and across the world. "Telugu is renewed for it's mellifluousness and ethereal beauty."
 
Recognising the cultural and heritage value of Telugu, it has been given the status of classical language by the Government of India, he pointed out. The Andhra Pradesh Government is taking several steps to propagate the Telugu language which is offered in 15 Universities. The Government has established the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University besides the Telugu Academy which is completely dedicated to the aim of preserving and propagating all areas of knowledge in Telugu, he said.
