The Bombay High Court directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth to pull down illegal constructions on the varsity's land here within a month.

The Court also ordered the Vice Chancellor to submit names of those responsible for the construction.

The pision bench headed by Justice Sharad Bobde had earlier appointed senior counsel K H Deshpande as amicus curie to assist the court.

The High Court had taken a suo motu cognisance of a report in local daily 'The Hitavada' on the illegal construction undertaken by the Agricultural University.

At the last hearing, the Court had asked PDKV to halt the construction. The varsity has planned swanky auditorium-cum-farmers' communication centre, exhibition space, VIP guest house and other facilities at an expenditure of Rs 12.75 crore. But the building plans were rejected by the town planning department of NMC.

According to NMC's lawyer, S K Mishra, the municipal corporation turned down the building plan submitted by PDKV and issued notice for demolition. But PDKV then approached Minister of State for Urban Development, Rajesh Tope, and got stay on the demolition notice.
